Civic Space Technical Assistance Project, funded by the European Union, is organising a Rights-Based Approach Mainstreaming Workshop on 20th of March from 16:00 to 19:00 at the Home for Cooperation.<\/strong> The workshop aims to enhance the understanding of the rights-based approach, to support CSOs in mainstreaming the approach in their policies, actions, and daily activities. The workshop will take place in English and simultaneous Turkish interpretation, also if requested sign language interpretation will be provided during the workshop.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rights-based approach derives from the human rights-based approach that is based on the principles and standards of the international human rights law. The rights-based approach differs from charity-based or need-based approaches that used to be more relevant in the past. The rights-based approach develops duty-bearers capacity to meet their obligations and encourages rights holders to claim their rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

RBA mainstreaming systematically addresses the duty-bearers' responsibilities and calls them into action. Through empowering rights-holders, RBA mainstreaming increases their capacity to claim their rights and aims to make each rights-holder the agent of change that multiply the effect beyond an intervention made under a charity or needs-based approach. RBA mainstreaming encourages the rights-holders to become active citizens and advocate for their rights. Civic engagement with the duty-bearers for the development and better implementation of rights is one of the areas that RBA mainstreaming focuses on. Active citizenship leads to advancing the culture of democracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the workshop, Civic Space will present the recently published Rights-Based Approach Mainstreaming Guideline.<\/strong> This Guideline contains applicable measures that CSOs can use at policy, strategy and activity levels. In addition, the Guideline also provides a checklist that can be used to assess whether an organisation is implementing the recommended measures and steps. In addition, following the workshop, Civic Space will offer tailor-made coaching for CSOs who need more specific guidance in mainstreaming the rights-based approach.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Civic Space is a project funded by European Union with a total budget of 3.499.550 Euro and its objective is to contribute to build, in the Turkish Cypriot community, a stronger civil society, which supports democratic changes and confidence building measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
