Civic Space hosted a Gender Mainstreaming Workshop on the
\n22.03.2024, aimed at enhancing the capacity of civil society organizations
\n(CSOs) to integrate gender perspectives into their operations and actions. This
\nworkshop brought together a diverse group of participants, showcasing the
\ncommitment of various CSOs to advancing gender equality.<\/p>\n

Gender mainstreaming in a civil society organization
\nincludes creating a safe space for all members, valuing their opinions equally
\nand incorporating them into the decision-making processes and equal inclusion
\nof all genders in decision-making bodies. The workshop advocated for active
\nengagement in debunking stereotypes and enhancing gender equality through
\nstrategic project, communication, and policy approaches.<\/p>\n

CSOs should adopt gender mainstreaming to maintain
\nmeaningful equality first in their own organisation. They should be aware of
\ntheir responsibilities of breaking down
\ntraditional gender stereotypes and for not reproducing the patriarchal
\nnorms.<\/p>\n

They should also ensure that policies
\nare inclusive of women and LGBTI individuals which means that they should
\nregularly question if the policies are designed, implemented, and evaluated
\nwith consideration for the specific needs, challenges, and experiences of women
\nand LGBTI individuals. It involves actively incorporating their perspectives,
\naddressing their concerns, and promoting their equal participation and rights
\nwithin the policy framework.<\/p>\n

The workshop was facilitated by Asl\u0131 Murat and \u00d6m\u00fcr Ray,
\ntwo renowned experts in gender studies and civic engagement, who brought their
\nvast experience to inspire the attendees. Their expertise set the stage for an
\nengaging and informative session, focusing on the practical aspects of gender
\nmainstreaming in organizational practices and policies.<\/p>\n

Attendees included representatives from several civil
\nsociety organizations such as the Refugee Rights Association, Universal
\nChildren’s Rights Association, Queer Cyprus Association, Human Rights Platform,
\nCyprus Turkish Teachers Syndicate, and Cyprus Education Research Association.
\nThis diverse participation underscored the workshop’s overarching goal: to
\nembed gender mainstreaming across various fields of civil society’s work,
\nregardless of their primary focus area.<\/p>\n

By bringing together CSOs from different sectors, the
\nworkshop not only highlighted the universal relevance of gender mainstreaming
\nbut also reminded that the journey towards gender equality is a collective
\nendeavour, necessitating the involvement and commitment of all societal
\nsectors.<\/p>\n

As the workshop concluded, the participants left with
\nrenewed motivation and enhanced tools to integrate gender perspectives into
\ntheir work. The impact of this gathering is expected to resonate within the
\nparticipating organizations and beyond, contributing to the broader movement
\ntowards gender equality and inclusivity in civil society.<\/p>\n
