Civic Space hosted the Ecology Mainstreaming Workshop on April 22, 2024, aimed at equipping civil society organizations (CSOs) and activists with the knowledge and tools to integrate ecological perspectives into their operations and activities. This workshop brought together a diverse group of participants from Green Action Group, The Environmental Society of Lefka, Ziraat Mühendisleri Odası, Famagusta Culture Association and Vegan Initative and activists, showcasing the commitment of various CSOs to advancing ecological sustainability.
The Workshop was facilitated by Münise Alibeyoğlu and Nazar Erişkin. The workshop was structured into several segments, each designed to build upon the last, and included breaks to facilitate networking and reflection among participants.
The session began with an introduction period from 16:00 to 16:15, followed by a focus on conceptual approaches to mainstreaming ecology from 16:15 to 17:00. A break was strategically placed to allow for an informal exchange of ideas and to reinforce learning through interaction. The workshop resumed with a session dedicated to understanding ecological mainstreaming until 17:45, highlighting practical applications and institutional integration of ecological practices from 18:00 to 18:45. The event concluded with a discussion on evaluation, next steps, and closing remarks from 18:45 to 19:00 .
The design of the workshop emphasized interactive learning, ensuring that participants were not only recipients of information but also active contributors to the discussions. This approach fostered an environment where attendees could share their experiences, thereby enriching the collective learning experience.
Moreover, the interactive elements of the workshop were evident in the use of real-life case studies and group discussions, which helped participants connect theoretical knowledge with practical applications. This method of delivery was essential in achieving the workshop’s goal of integrating ecological principles into decision-making processes across various sectors, thereby promoting environmental sustainability.
