Multicommunal Work
What is Multicommunal Work?
Despite barriers, Civil society in Cyprus has a key role to play in creating spaces for dialogue and cooperation between the Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot communities and every other community living in Cyprus.
Therefore, Civic Space is promoting multi communal work in common interest topics by supporting bicommunal groups working on human rights, environment protection, LGBTI rights among other. Civic Space is also seeking to favour a multi-communalism and intersectionality approach in every activity: training, helpdesk and Grow Civic support, study visits and exchange visits.
Among the 92 supported ACM actions, 44 were aiming at peace and reconciliation and/or bicommunal partnership.
Civic Space has organized 1 training on mediation and 4 trainings on facilitation for peace dialogue. Around 90 people participated in these trainings.
Civic Space has organized several bicommunal exchange visits to both sides of the Island mostly on environmental issues.
Civic Space is proposing a new tool to further enhance dialogue, collaboration, and peer-to-peer learning to strengthen civil society capacity. The Exchange Initiative aims to bring two CSO/initiatives together to work in partnership on a chosen capacity building area, which is determined by their organizational needs.
