On 11 January 2024, Civic Space hosted an informative online session about the newly launched Grow Civic program. The Grow Civic Program is part of the Civic Space project which is funded by the European Union with a total budget of 3,499,550 euros. Its objective is to contribute to building a stronger civil society in the Turkish Cypriot community that supports democratic changes and confidence-building measures.
All civil society organizations in the northern part of Cyprus were invited to participate in the event, which was promoted through Civic Space’s various social media channels.
The first information session brought together over 40 civil society representatives eager to learn about the updated Grow Civic program. The Civic Space team led the event, which included a complete presentation on the program's updated objectives as well as a breakdown of the available support packages. Participants also found out more about eligibility criteria and financial support potential.
The Grow Civic experiences presented by former beneficiaries, including activists and organizations, were a powerful part of the event, underlining how Grow Civic empowered them to take significant steps to enhance their capacity for rights-based action.
They have also underlined the role of the help desk support they received from the Civic Space team throughout the entire process of putting together their request and implementing the action.
The Grow Civic Program, which ran from 2016 to 2023 with periodic pauses, supported 116 actions at a total of €320,000. It reopened to the public on December 25, 2023, with updated processes and will continue providing support until July 2025.
