Civic Space is happy to announce the publication of the Civic Space Mentoring Guideline, a comprehensive resource designed to support civil society organisations in strengthening their capacities through peer learning, guidance, and structured mentoring processes.
Unlike traditional mentoring programmes, where an experienced mentor supports an individual mentee, the Civic Space Mentoring Programme introduces a unique model: where the mentees are civil society organisations (CSOs), and the mentors are peer CSO actors equipped with thematic and organisational capacity-building expertise. This peer-to-peer approach creates a collaborative learning environment where both mentors and mentees benefit.
The programme enables mentee organisations to:
- enhance their institutional and strategic capacities,
- strengthen their do-it-yourself (DIY) skills,
- improve problem-solving and planning processes, and
- expand their long-term organisational vision.
Since its launch, the Civic Space Mentoring Programme has supported many CSOs in Cyprus, offering guidance in areas such as strategic planning, fundraising, communications, and advocacy. Each mentoring partnership is unique, fostering peer-to-peer exchange, mutual learning, trust-building, and broader networking opportunities within the CSO ecosystem. To date, 20 trained and skilled mentors from diverse fields have contributed their expertise to the programme.
We are happy to present the Civic Space Mentoring Guideline, which brings together the insights, tools, and practical materials developed throughout the programme. The guideline serves as a valuable reference for mentors, offering:
- checklists,
- case studies,
- facilitation tips, and
- step-by-step guidance for leading meaningful and mutually beneficial mentoring processes.
It is equally useful for mentee CSOs, helping them prepare for mentoring, plan their engagement, and monitor their capacity-strengthening journey.
